by Zoe W.
You didn’t think I was going to leave it at just one, did you? I have too many queer book recommendations to stop there!
RED—The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite
I was a historical romance hater until I read this book. It’s fun and sweet and very sapphic and looks at the ways in which women’s contributions to both art and science have been devalued throughout history.
ORANGE—Real Life by Brandon Taylor
A contemporary literary novel about trauma, found family, being the only queer Black person in your entire graduate program, and those rare stolen moments of true happiness.
YELLOW—The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School by Sonora Reyes
This book is adorable and brilliant and very funny. If you’ve ever been a queer teenager, if you ever went to Catholic school, if you have a close but complicated relationship with your immediate family, or if you have immigrant parents, you will probably relate to Yamilet and her journey.
GREEN—The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
A found family heist novel with one of the most well-written bisexual characters I’ve ever encountered—and he’s an anti-colonial historian to boot.
BLUE—Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
I will forever rave about this absolutely bizarre book, with its alien-run doughnut shop and its multiple Faustian bargains, and especially about the gorgeous trans story at the center of it.
PURPLE—Delilah Green Doesn’t Care by Ashley Herring Blake
Delilah Green returns to her childhood home of Bright Falls to photograph her stepsister’s wedding and is thrown into the company of her stepsister’s gorgeous best friend, a young single mom who runs a bookstore.
